It was "great"...
So it’s 12:01 AM on the final Thursday of the first mini-semester. A few hours ago the lot of us sauntered out of a big glass building, onto a partial sidewalk, and stood in a daze after an intense accounting exam. Some people spoke, others leaned against the door, had a smoke, some just quietly existed. It was an interesting moment. As the rest of the class slowly gathered, there was a sense of relief, and partial joy, but all of that was smothered by an overwhelming community of tired people. And yes, we are tired. The first 6 weeks was a collection of great experiences. Great, not necessarily in the colloquial sense, where it follows “good” and is meant as a positive sentiment. Rather, this first bout with the ECM program was “GREAT”. It was greatly challenging, greatly interesting, greatly difficult, greatly satisfying, greatly…well, you fill in the blank. What is GREAT to you? If you write that word enough times is just looks ridiculous. And it doesn’t help that it’s 12:07 AM now after the busiest month and a half of my academic career, and the only words of significance in my life are, “regression”, “Cost-Benefit”, or “Beetle”. Well, you know what I mean. But now…right now, after a true reflection, I’m happy that I chose the ECM program. I was right about all you people. You’re all great. And that I mean in the proper sense. Goodnight.
